The outrageous cars and crazy suits at Lapo Elkann's Garage Italia
What's Lapo Elkann, the dashing middle grandchild of Italian industrial titan Gianni Agnelli, up to these days?
His newest project is Garage Italia Customs, a Milan-based company doing custom bodywork, paint and upholstery.
Want a denim roof liner in your Fiat 500? Lapo's your man.
A 500X called the Black Tie is Garage Italia Customs' first publicly shown creation. Elkann, who turned 38 this month, took a 500X, wrap-painted it with chrome film for a herringbone/pinstripe effect, then added denim and cashmere seats, Alcantara dash, black denim roof liner and cashmere sun visors.
The brother of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Chairman John Elkann says car customization has always been a big part of his life. "I guess it runs in the family," he told Autoweek. "I started personalizing my cars as soon as I was old enough to drive, and I never stopped."
He says Garage Italia Customs will sell products in the U.S. sooner rather than later.
"My hope is to show up at SEMA with something as incredible as it is unexpected," he said.
